Tesla already outsells Audi in the US luxury car segment

Tesla has gained ground not only in the electric car segment, but in luxury brands. In fact, according to 2020 data from the Automotive News Research and Data Center, Tesla has overtaken Audi as the fourth-best-selling luxury car brand in the US.

Of course, it still has veterans like BMW, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz on top.

The Bavarian firm is the queen in the US

According to registration data for the top five luxury brands in the US, Tesla registered around 200,500 cars in the American country in 2020. Meanwhile, Audi registered around 183,600.

A step back for the brand with the four rings – despite the success of the Audi e-tron – since in 2019 it surpassed Tesla by 50,000 units.

Thus, the top five of registrations in the US is as follows

BMW: 287,259 units.
Lexus: 271,384 units.
Mercedes-Benz: 265,600 units.
Tesla: 200,561 units.
Audi: 183,594 units.

As we can see, BMW is in the lead, while Tesla, which only sells electric vehicles, remains at 65,000 Mercedes-Benz units.
