Porsche unveiled the 911 Targa 4S just a short time ago and now they’ve already revealed a new special edition Targa, the retro-styled Heritage Design Edition. The special 992 generation Targa 4S pays homage to Porsche’s racing success in the 1950s and 1960s.
Although this retro-themed variant doesn’t take cues from any one car, its retro heritage is obvious. Spears extend from the headlights, while a vintage crest graces the hood. There’s a heritage badge on the trunk as well and a Porsche stripe runs along the bottom of the car.
Inside the Heritage Design Edition 911 Targa 4S, you’ll also find corduroy accents. While corduroy has fallen out of style in recent decades, it was all the rage back when. You’ll find more vintage crests as well, and the instrument panel features a green backlight akin to the 356.
Underneath the hood you’ll find the same goodness in any 911 Targa 4S. That means a 3 liter flat six that cranks out 379 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with an eight speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. Unfortunately, however, there may not be an option for a true manual transmission.
Just 992 models are slatted for production and sales are set to start this fall. Prices start at $181,950, more than $40,000 over the base price of the Targa 4S. So while pretty, the Heritage Design Edition is also quite pricy. If you miss out on this variant, don’t worry, Porsche is planning to launch at least three more Design Heritage Editions in the future.
